Rachael started working for WUPPDR in May, 2018 after she returned to live in the Western U.P. with her husband, son, and dog. Her planning responsibilities include:

  • Regional Prosperity Initiative Support
  • Coordination/Project Lead of 2020 Hazard Mitigation Plan Updates for Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon Counties as well as drafting a new Tribal Hazard Mitiation Plan for the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community
  • Coordination of the Western U.P. Food Systems Council and general food systems planning & support – https://www.wupfoodsystems.com/
  • Grant Administration for the Community Marketing Mini-grants
  • Recreation Planning (current project: Bergland Township)
  • Project Coordinator for the U.P. Brew Trail
  • MDOT Regional Planning (non-motorized transportation)
  • Western U.P. Regional Chamber Alliance
  • Tribal Partnerships Planning & Coordination
  • Staff Liaison to Baraga and Keweenaw Counties

Rachael is originally from Alaska and enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, gardening, cooking, beach combing, and portrait photography. She received her Bachelors of Science in Geology from Michigan Technological University in 2014.

Rachael is a board member of the Lake Superior Stewardship Initiative (http://lakesuperiorstewardship.org/), provides support to the Hancock Bike & Pedestrian Committee (http://www.cityofhancock.com/docs/nonmotorplan.pdf), a member of the leadership team for the Resilient Futures Project through the Keweenaw Community Foundation (http://keweenawcommunityfoundation.org/), and also a member of directing council for the Upper Peninsula Arts & Cultural Alliance (https://www.upacalliance.com/) .
