News & NoticesL'Anse Area Recreation Plan 2008-2012 Draft Available February 22, 2008 - The updated Draft - L'Anse Township, Village of L'Anse & L'Anse Area Schools Recreation Plan 2008-2012 is now available online for review. The plan has been prepared by WUPPDR to meet DNR guidelines and is presented here for public comment. Comments on the draft plan can be sent to Jim LaMuth, Assistant Planner. Comments will be accepted until March 27, 2008. The plan can be viewed on the WUPPDR 'Documents' page.
Village of Ontonagon Recreation Plan Updated Draft Available February 22, 2007 - The updated Draft - Village of Ontonagon Recreation Plan is now available online for review. The plan has been prepared by WUPPDR to meet DNR guidelines and is presented here for public comment. Comments on the draft plan can be sent to Meghan Pachmayer, Assistant Planner. Comments will be accepted until March 2, 2007. The plan can be viewed on the WUPPDR 'Documents' page. Update - Final Plan is now available on Documents page
Ontonagon Access Management Draft Available June 8, 2006 - The Village of Ontonagon Access Management Plan Draft is now available online for review. The plan has been prepared by Wilcox Professional Services, Inc. and is presented by the Corridor Management Team for public comment. A public hearing will be held in July on a revised plan with the final plan due in September. The plan is available on the WUPPDR 'Documents' page.
Copper Country Trail Corridor Management Plan Online April 26, 2005 - The Copper Country Trail Corridor Management Plan (CMP) is now available online. The new plan includes the expanded Copper Country Trail - US 41 route from Houghton to Copper Harbor. The plan is available on the WUPPDR 'Documents' page.
Kurt Giesau Recieves 2004 Chiantello Award
September 23, 2004 - The Oreste Chiantello
Award recipient for 2004 is Kurt Giesau of Ontonagon. The award
is presented each year by the Western U.P. Planning and Development
Region and Western U.P. Michigan Works. Oreste Chiantello was a member of the
WUPPDR and Michigan Works Boards. In his memory, both boards
established the Oreste "Chip" Chiantello Public Service
Award for a deserving individual from the western U.P. who displays
the qualities of service, dedication and leadership.
The award was presented at WUPPDR's annual
meeting on Monday, September 20th at the Mariner North in Copper
Harbor. Scott Roehm, Ontonagon Village President accepted the
award on Giesau's behalf.
2003 CEDS Report Online December 9, 2003 - The 2003 Western Upper Peninsula Community Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Report is now available online. Go to the WUPPDR 'Documents' page to see the 2003 CEDS. WUPPDR serves as a designated economic development district under the U.S. Economic Development Administration and maintains the CEDS for Planning Region 13.
Dompier Awarded for Public Service September 23, 2003 - Baraga County resident Jim Dompier received the Oreste "Chip" Chiantello Public Service Award at the Wester U.P. Planning and Development Region (WUPPDR) 35th Annual Meeting in Silver City on Monday, September 22nd. The award was established by WUPPDR and Michigan Works in memory of Oreste "Chip" Chiantello from Gogebic County, who was a member of both boards and provided many years of distinguished public service to the residents of the western U.P. The annual award is given to an individual from the western U.P. who demonstrates outstanding quality of service, dedication and leadership. Mr. Dompier retired in 2001 from the Michigan State University Extension where he served as the County Director and 4-H Agent. He was the 1995 Kiwanis "Baraga County Person of the Year" and presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Baraga County Fair, Board of Directors for St. Vincent DePaul, is President of the Baraga County Historical Society, Treasurer of the Baraga County Conservation District, and is a member of numerous other organizations.

Road Condition Survey Results AvailableSeptember 9, 2003 - The Asset Management Road Condition Survey Results are now available for the Western U.P. In August and September of 2003, the surface condition of all federal aid roads in the six counties was evaluated using the PASER rating system.
